Description

Hornaté, mostly forested land, dominated by beech and fir forests. In the foothills there are parts of oak-beech forests. Edge areas in the foothills are mostly deforested with meadows, pastures and arable land. There can be often found unmanaged meadows on the mountain ridges.

Area protection

IBA Čergov was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) on Febrauary 1, 2011.

Importance

The area is particularly important for nesting of forest bird species, especially owls, birds of prey, species that nest in cavities and bird species breeding and hunting in meadows and pastures.
