Description
It is a Pannonian type of lowland that is represented mainly by agrocenoses and secondary by xerothermic and semixerothermic grassland com- munities on loess and alluvium of the Danube River. Majority of area has an intensive agricultural use. There are also two smaller lakes, unused orchard and northeastern part is intersected by canal Malinovo – Blahová.
Area protection
IBA Lehnice was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) on August 8, 2005.
Importance
Lehnice is one of the most important areas in Slovakia for breeding of Red-footed Falcon (Falco vespertinus) and irregularly for breeding of Great Bustard (Otis tarda). The territory is important for wintering birds of prey and as an important resting habitat of migratory birds in spring and autumn.
