Description

Territory of Slovenský raj consists of three parts. Largest area covers rangy karstic region with typical rocky gorges. From the west is the area interfered by forests of Nízke Tatry mountains and from the north by agricultural landscape of Hornádska kotlina basin.

Area protection

IBA Slovenský raj was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) on October 22, 2010.

Importance

The area is important for bird species of forest and rocky habitats. In the complexes of old forests and rocky cliffs can be found good nesting conditions for birds of prey, Owls, Grouse, Woodpeckers and for other cavity nestling species.
