Description
The area has upland (Cerová vrchovina) and basin (Rimavská kotlina) character. It is partially covered with deciduous forests (thermophilous oak forests, red oak forests, beech woods, Carpathian and Pannonian oak-hornbeam forests and scree forests). On the rest of the area is predominant agricultural landscape with scattered wood vegetation and pastures. There can be found rocky and wetland habitats as well as rural habitats.

IBA Cerová vrchovina – Rimavská kotlina was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) Cerová vrchovina – Porimavie on January 7, 2008.

Importance
The area is particularly important for nesting of species of open areas (mosaic agricultural landscape with scattered wood vegetation and pastures), forests, rocky habitats and wetlands.
