Little Carpathians and Driny cave

here begins the Carpathian arc to rise

Visit the westernmost part of Carpathians. Beech and oak forests, that provide suitable conditions for breeding of White-backed Woodpecker or Collared Flycatcher, meet here the lowland area. Slopes are full of vineyards, where you can here the calls of Hoopoes or spot the soaring Honey Buzzard over your head.

Driny cave – This beautiful cave with myriads of stalactites and stalagmites is the only cave open for tourism in western part of Slovakia. Cave was discovered in 1929 and open for public 5 years later.


characteristics: Little Carpathians are the westernmost mountain range of Carpathian Mountains. Area is densely forested, mostly by beech. Southeastern slopes contains extensive vineyards. This combination of habitats with mild climate provide suitable conditions for diversity of fauna and flora. In the mountains man can find several small-sized karst areas. Numerous castles and caves can be found along this mountain range.
