Description
This flat area is occupying the southern part of Východoslovenská rovina flatland. Intensively used agricultural landscape is prevailing with relatively dense network of oxbow lakes, wet terrain depressions, canals and alluvial meadows. There can be found well preserved alluvial forests alongside the rivers, while the southern part can be characterized by xerothermic sand habitats.
Area protection
IBA Medzibodrožie was designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) on January 7, 2008.

Importance
The area is most important in Slovakia for a wide range of waterfowl, species living near the water and species that are breeding in meadow and xerothermic sand habitats. In the territory are nesting the largest Slovak populations of Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), Bittern (Botaurus stellaris), Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), Black Tern (Chlidonias niger), Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus), White Stork (Ciconia ciconia) and Little Crake (Porzana parva). According to the data it is suggested that 3-5 pairs of Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca) are regularly nesting here.
