Importance

The area is important breeding site for waterfowl and bird species bound to water. This fishpond system is the only nesting site of Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) in Slovakia and irregular nesting site of Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta). It is also a nesting site of the largest national population of Great Egret (Egretta alba), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus).  Fishponds with surrounding meadows are important migration halt for migrating waterfowl. During the spring migration on the wet meadows there can be found large amount of Waders, mostly Ruffs (Philomachus pugnax).
