During this weekend took place our first this year´s short course on bird calls at Železná studnička. Ján Dobšovič organizes this event for 7 years. During one hour of our course we have shown to our clients several bird species and we taught them how to tell apart their songs. April is good especially for beginners, since trees do not have leaves so far and there are not many species of birds singing at once.
So far we have prepared altogether 8 courses attended by approximately 40 people. Of the observed bird species, we would like to mention Nuthatch and Firecrest. A pair of Nuthatches build a nest in a cavity right in front of our stand and regularly flew in and out. The brave Firecrest pleased us by his singing and hopping around on branches just a few centimeters from sidewalk. Above our heads we have seen Ravens and Common Buzzards. We have heard Wrens, White and Grey Wagtails, Blackbirds and Song Thrushes, Great and Blue Tits and also quiet Robins. Great and Middle Spotted Woodpeckers crept up the trees in the area of buffets.
Next short courses on bird calls this spring will take place on May 12 – 13 and June 2 – 3. Participants and passersbys were interested also in our planned bird walks in May, about which you can find more information here.
During this weekend at Železná studnička we recorded altogether 34 bird species.
